The Shooting Gallery - Our Upcoming Exhibit

The Shooting Gallery, an exhibit by the Scott County Shooter's Photography Club (yep, that's us!) will run from January 8th through February 5th, with the opening reception being held on Friday, January 8th from 6-8pm at the Scott County Arts and Cultural Center, located at 117 Water St. in Georgetown. The gallery hours, unless otherwise noted, are Tuesday through Saturday 12-4pm, or by appointment. For more information, or to make an appointment, contact Barbara Stipplehoff at 502-863-0909 or 502-570-8366. The event is free and open to the public.

Okay, that's the headline, now for the nitty gritty.

We only had four members attend the gallery planning meeting held earlier this month. Luckily, we were able to quickly make decisions on most of the details. We need to hear from everyone in the group. Ida has graciously agreed to make the entire menu for the exhibit reception, which will consist of finger foods with bottled water and punch to drink. Brenda has graciously agreed to pick up the materials, such as plates, cups, and napkins. I have worked on brochures and ads to publicize our group and the event as well as some custom art work to display our name at the exhibit. As a group, we will all need to contribute to cover these expenses. We estimate that it will be about $5 per person. This is a very small price to pay to have our own exhibit where we can feature and sell our work! We will also need some volunteers to setup, man, and clean up after the exhibit.

Regarding entry exhibits, Brenda and I have only heard from Ida and Lynn regarding their contributions to the exhibit. We really want this to be a great success, to really showcase who we are - our talents and our passions. So, let's make sure this exhibit is the best we can possibly make it! Please contact Brenda and/or myself immediately, letting us know if you plan to participate and, if so, with how many pieces. Please take a minute to send us an email even if you don't plan to participate, letting us know that is the case, so we can have a good idea of what to expect.

We are also looking at having a possible framing workshop like we did for the Sadieville exhibit. It looks like the Saturday before the exhibit may be a good day, as it is the day before we are to deliver our pieces. Nothing definite in this regard, yet, though. Please let Brenda and/or myself know if you'd like to attend a framing workshop and, if so, if that Saturday or another date works best.

Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with their friends and family, with plenty of time to relax and refresh for a new year!

There's also more than just one birthday to celebrate! In addition to the obvious big one, turns out at least two of our members are celebrating birthdays, too! Happy Birthday to Mike Key (25th) and Brenda Fogle (26th). . .and to any other members that had or are having birthday celebrations during the holiday season!

January Shooter's Gallery

Are you getting ready for the January Shooting Gallery Exhibit?
I received these guidelines (below) for framing our work for the exhibit at the Arts and Cultural Center (the old Jail) January 8Th through February 5Th. You will be able to drop off your pictures on Sunday, Jan 3rd from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM. If that is not a good day for you, please contact me and I will try to work out arrangements to get them another day. Barbara said we should schedule a reception for Jan 8Th, which is Friday evening and we should notify the newspaper and other publicity sources in order to get the word out.

You may invite your friends to enter their work. The more pictures we have, the better the exhibit will be!

We will need to know who is planning to bring some refreshments for the open house on January the 8Th and also who would like to help do the set up and/or clean up that evening

Please write me or Dewanna if you have any questions or suggestions. You may call me at 863-7444 or 859-699-1679.
These are the guidelines you need to use;

What's Happening

For those of you who missed our meeting this evening, Jay brought a training video by John Greengo with creativetechs.com which taught how to set and use your shutter, apeture and ISO on you camera. It was an excellent teaching source with detailed and easy to follow instruction. You can check out some of the other workshops they are offering; http://creativetechs.com/training/ Jay has offered to let us use some of the other videos in some of our meetings next year and we plan to take her up on her offer....thanks Jay!

I know this is a busy time of the year and a lot you are traveling but I had hoped for a good turn out this evening since this was our last meeting before the exhibit in January at the Arts Consortium. This will be a huge opportunity to show off our work, get some notoriety in the community and also a chance to sell your work. We are going to schedule a breif meeting sometime in December to hand out the paperwork that must be completed for the exhibit and to go over the details for dropping off and picking up your work in January. You will be getting an email with the date and time of the Dec meeting.
Dewanna and I are really hoping for a good turn out, so please get your pictures ready and lets have a great show!

Please read the email below and respond if you are interested in taking pictures for Cynthia Foster;

Hi Brenda,

I was wondering if you and/or your group might be interested in photographing our Christmas event on Saturday, December 12th from 5-8 pm?

We are also holding a Historical Highway Marker Dedication Ceremony for the Mt Pleasant Church and School on Sunday, December 13th at 2:00 pm. Immediately after there will be a 125th Anniversary Celebration of the church at the City Hall and we are going to have a special speaker. I would love to have someone taking pictures. I can ask the Commission if we could pay someone to take pictures. I don;'t know what they will say since we made so many cut-backs in our budget.

Let me know what you think.

Images of Sadieville

We will be at the Sadieville City Hall on Tuesday, Nov 3rd to hang the pictures for the exhibit. I will be there at 5:00 PM and Cindy Foster will be working at the City Hall that day from 9-5 so you can drop them off to her during those hours if you need to. Also, you may contact me before then and I will be happy to collect your work and take it with me on Tuesday. The exhibit will run the whole month of November until Monday, November the 30Th.

You will need to provide your name and phone number on each piece that is for sale so that any interested buyers will be able to contact you and work out the details. If you have a business card, you may tape it to the front or back of the picture.

Please remember that the city of Sadieville nor myself can be held responsible for any damages that my occur to your photographs during the process of transporting or hanging. If you plan to display several images, please keep an inventory of your work so there will be no confusion when it comes time to pick them up.

From what I have seen so far, this is going to be an excellent exhibit and I think the folks in Scott County will truly enjoy it!

Thanks!
Brenda

Group Shoot?

Hey Gang -

The exhibit for our Sadieville project is scheduled for November, so we still have some time to do some more shooting for it. Fall is here and I thought it would be great to capture some fall foliage in the Sadieville countryside.

Do we have any interest in a group shoot on either Saturday, October 17th or Saturday, October 24th?

Just let Brenda or myself know.

Group Shoot - Sunday, April 26th

As mentioned in the prior post, we've scheduled a group shoot for this Sunday, April 26th. We are going to meet at 3pm in the parking lot of the public library. From there, we'll carpool to Sadieville. This way, you can kill two birds with one stone. You can shoot for our monthly topic, which is buildings and architecture and you can begin shooting for the Sadieville project Brenda has started for us. We are planning on shooting for a couple of hours. Email Brenda (brendaannfogle@yahoo.com) if you have any questions.

See you there!

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

We want to get this group out there and shooting, so we tentatively have a date for a group outing to shoot next month's theme, buildings and architecture. The date is Sunday, April 25th. We haven't worked out all of the details yet, but we plan to meet together someplace and expect it to be a late afternoon shoot. Details will be posted once finalized, so keep checking back here and the blog.

Also, there are some exciting projects in the works for the coming months. Stay tuned for more information on those!

If you have any ideas or suggestions about places and dates for group shoots, or for group projects, don't hesitate to post them here.

Also, if you're looking for a shooting buddy, posting here or in the Flickr discussion pool would be a great way to reach out and connect. So, if you have a date when you'd like to get out and shoot and want some company, go ahead and post!

What to Do? Where to Go?

Since it will be later this month before we meet again, I thought it would be a good idea to get the ball rolling on the discussion around what we'd like to do as a club this year and where we might like to go. So, please share your thoughts by leaving a comment here, or in the Flickr discussion pool.

Here are some questions/thoughts to guide our discussion:

- What do you want to get out of this club?
- Do you want guest speakers and, if so, who? On what topics?
- Do you want workshops and, if so, covering what subjects?
- Do you want group outings and, if so, where?
- Do you want group exhibits?
- Do you have suggestions to improve our club? Well, let us hear them!
- What do you like/think is working for our club right now and what do you dislike/think isn't working right now? What changes would you like to see?

2009 Schedule

Hello everyone, hope you are having a happy new year!

In our last meeting, which was held Nov 25th, we had a small group but we enjoyed Dewanna's
demonstration of the Windows Movie Maker. We viewed the Autum pictures and discussed them, thanks to all who brought pictures! We also looked at the Shooters blog and talked about utalizing it more.

Just a note to give you the new schedule for 2009 and talk a little about what is to come.

In January, we will announce the "Monthly Shooting Themes" list according to votes made on the Shooters Blog. It looks like BLACK AND WHITE received the most votes with BUILDINGS AND ARC, SOMETHING OLD, PLANTS AND FLOWERS, URBAN DECAY, and PERSPECTIVE
coming in next. It looks like we will have lots of good subjects to shoot but you'll have to come to the meeting in order to get the rest of the list. :)

Eddie Boden Jr. is planning to give a basic Photoshop demonstration in our February meeting, so please plan to come and support his efforts.
